Description

Two plainly detailed detached single-storey outbuildings in the classical style, built around 1900, located on the south side of Dullerton Road, Strabane. These well-constructed buildings derive their interest from the simplicity of their designs and remain striking structures, further enhanced by their estate setting and group value alongside Dullerton Manor House to the south and the gate lodge located just south of Dullerton Road.

The two rectangular blocks are aligned north-south. The principal block, located to the east, is seven bays long and features a central gabled bay. The secondary block is located to the west and is six bays long.

Roofs are pitched with asbestos tiles, red clay ridge tiles, masonry verges, and corbelled eaves. The eastern block contains a ventilation cowl at the ridge with a lead-capped roof. Walls are smooth rendered with projecting stepped quoins and a plinth. Windows are multi-pane timber casements with projecting masonry cills. Doors are square-headed and timber-sheeted unless otherwise noted.

The principal block faces east and contains a central gabled bay with smooth rendered pilasters flanking a recessed entrance foyer at ground floor. An entrance door is present at each face, and an oculus louvered ventilation opening is located at the apex. Three windows are positioned to the right of the gabled bay. To the left of the gabled bay is a single window with a cast-iron water tap surround below, and further left are two double-leaf doors with original ironmongery. The left (south) gable contains a replacement timber casement window in an original opening, with the lower half blocked. The rear (west) elevation is entirely abutted by a lean-to extension with a corrugated metal roof and smooth rendered walling. The exposed gable apex contains a cambered loft door. The extension contains an opening connecting to the original door of the central gabled bay and two stable doors at the left; the extension is of no architectural interest. The right (north) gable contains a door at the left and a glazed oculus window at the apex.

The west block is similarly detailed to the east block, with the exception that it features 15-pane timber sliding sash windows rather than casements. A smooth rendered corbelled chimneystack is present at the south party wall, and uPVC rainwater goods are fitted. The principal elevation faces east with alternating door and window openings to each bay. The left (south) gable is blank. The rear (west) elevation contains a single window at the right and four square-headed ventilation openings. The right (north) gable contains a single door at the left and a circular opening at the apex.

The buildings are set within a large estate to the north of Dullerton Road, with Dullerton Manor House located to the south. The outbuildings appear on the third edition Ordnance Survey Map of 1906 and are recorded on the Valuation Revisions Map covering 1897 to 1912. Valuation records indicate that the outbuildings had been constructed by 1903.
