Bridge, Feeny Road, Drumcovit, Feeny, Co Londonderry

This is a small, pleasing sandstone rubble bridge, dating to the second half of the 19th century (1860-1879). It serves as the entrance to a picturesque stretch of rural landscape, situated east of Drumcovit House. Originally a single arch, the bridge is now culverted and forms the beginning of the Feeny Road, extending towards Knockan Bridge. The parapet walls are 17 metres long, with a distance of 7 metres between them, and return to form buttresses at each end. The bridge features well-preserved sandstone hogsback copings. The road itself is a remnant of the original Feeny Road, running parallel to the Owenbeg River and passing near the entrances to Knockan, Ashpark, and Drumcovit Houses. The culverting was carried out in a somewhat crude manner, though its impact on the overall rural scene is minimal. It is likely a replacement for an earlier structure, given that the roadway dates to the middle of the 18th century. The Feeny Road was realigned in the 1960s under Major Scott, the County Surveyor, and the scheme received a Civic Award. The bridge possesses characteristics of industrial archaeological interest.
