Site of house ('Mountain View'), Ballymacrandal, Portadown, Craigavon, Co Armagh

The site formerly contained a substantial two-story house, named ‘Mountain View’, demolished around 1982 and now occupied by a modern replacement dwelling. The house was situated to the southeast of [?] Road, approximately one mile west of Portadown, in County Armagh. A building is shown on this site on the Ordnance Survey map of 1835, and in the contemporary valuation records, it was described as a 'dwelling and shop' occupied by Ralph Bullock. The main, slated building measured 57½ feet by 24 feet by 14½ feet, with a smaller, slated addition of 16½ feet by 17 feet by 9 feet, and two older thatched outbuildings of 77 feet by 19½ feet by 7½ feet, and 58 feet by 19 feet by 6½ feet. The entire property was valued at £9-8-0. Subsequent valuations in 1861 documented an additional 1½-story return of 4 yards by 5 yards, and several new single and two-story outbuildings, some slated and some thatched. The Bullock family resided there until 1904 when a William Templeton acquired the lease. By this time, the property had ceased to function as a shop and was solely a private residence. William Templeton remained at the property until at least 1929. A survey in July 1978 described the site as a derelict store. A licensed public house was once located on the site, likely the ‘shop’ mentioned in the 1830s valuation records.
