Description

The site, located on the north side of Carbet Road approximately two miles northwest of Portadown, was formerly the location of a vernacular house constructed primarily before 1835. The house was demolished after 1974, leaving only the farmyard gateway.

A survey from 1974 described the house as a part single, part two-storey structure with a slated roof and rendered gable ends. The walls were rendered and whitewashed, with a brick base. The single-storey section on the left had three drop-hung sash windows, lacking astragals, but featuring a narrow, blue-painted raised surround. A projecting porch with a slated shed roof, sheeted door, plain narrow fanlight, and decorative transom was also present. The two-storey section on the right had a similar drop-hung window on the first floor, alongside two small, sheeted window openings. The ground floor mirrored this with a window and sheeted door below a window opening. The south front was approximately 65 feet wide. Associated farm outbuildings were originally present.

A building is indicated on the 1835 Ordnance Survey map, but it was not listed in contemporary valuations. Records from 1861 describe a thatched, single-storey dwelling occupied by Sarah Taylor, valued at £2-5-0. John Taylor succeeded her in 1873, and a valuation increase to £3-5-0 in 1882 suggests the addition of a storey to the eastern section. John Taylor died around 1900, and William Parks took the lease in 1905, adding a new hayshed the following year. Parks later acquired the freehold in 1910 and remained until annual valuation records ceased in 1929.

Only the vehicle gateway remains, comprising rendered, pyramidal-capped piers and wrought-iron gates. Supporting documentation includes Ordnance Survey maps and valuation records from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), alongside a first survey record card from 1974.
