Donaghadee and district war memorial, Shore Street, Donaghadee, Co Down

The Donaghadee and District War Memorial is an obelisk erected around 1922 to commemorate those who died in the First World War. It is situated on the east side of Shore Street, facing away from the shore. The memorial is constructed from dressed grey limestone.

The focal point is an obelisk with a shallow pyramidal cap, below which is a recessed band and a small moulded wreath on the west face. The west face of the obelisk features inscriptions. The obelisk stands upon a square pedestal with several courses of stonework above and below. Inscriptions are also present on the west face of the pedestal. L-shaped quadrant walls extend from the north and south faces of the pedestal. The walls are tallest where they meet the pedestal, featuring simple classical mouldings, curved buttresses, and panels containing the names of the fallen. The lower sections of the walls are topped with simple coping and end piers with shallow pyramidal caps and buttresses. The rear of the walls, which face the shore, are painted and built upon a battered base of dark, squared fieldstone.

A small paved forecourt lies immediately west of the obelisk, enclosed by low iron railings with simple geometric panels, including a central gate. The railings are the same height as the outer walls. The memorial is located within a conservation area.
