20 Craigarusky Road, Balloo, Killinchy, Co Down, BT23 6QS

The site, located to the north of Craigarusky Road on the northeastern edge of the hamlet of Balloo, previously contained a single-storey dwelling which was demolished in recent times, and a modern dwelling now occupies the location. The original house, likely dating from before 1834, was described in the First Survey as a long single-storey cottage with a projecting wing on the west side. It had a slated roof with gabled ends and brick chimneys. The walls were finished with grey roughcast. Three double-hung windows with horizontal astragals were present, along with a recent door between the second and third windows and a store door in the right-hand gable. The original cottage was approximately 85 feet in length, and the condition was noted as fair.

A building is shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1859-60 which likely corresponds to the demolished house. It was not initially listed in valuation records around 1835, suggesting it had a low rateable value. However, by about 1861, it was leased to a William Russell by Samuel Murland with “house offices and land” having a rateable value of £18.
