The site represents the footprint of a probable early nineteenth-century single-storey cottage, demolished around 1982 and replaced with a new dwelling. Located approximately two miles north of Newtownards, the cottage’s design reflected vernacular building traditions. The 1834 and 1860 Ordnance Survey maps show a building on the site. According to a description on the first survey card, the cottage had a corrugated iron roof, gable ends, and rendered chimneys. The walls were roughcast and painted white, with a green base colour, and the window surrounds were painted green. It featured three diamond-pane windows lacking astragals and one single-pane window. A panelled door was positioned between the second and third windows. Documentary evidence relating to the cottage includes Ordnance Survey Maps from 1834 and 1860, the first valuation of Newtownards from approximately 1835, and a second valuation from around 1863, all held at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI).
