Description
This is a former smithy, likely built between 1920 and 1939, now incorporated into a house. It is a small, single-storey building of rubble stone, originally freestanding, but now linked to a two-storey house by a single-storey block constructed in 1999. The exterior has a modern dry dash finish painted white and roofs covered in irregular courses of Bangor blue slates, with a small, modern red chimney pot at one gable. It features PVC rainwater goods and modern rectangular PVC windows on the rear and front elevations, with sliding doors on the front. One gable is blank, while the other has a small, rectangular PVC window in the apex. The adjacent house has rendered walls, slated roofs, semi-circular headed sash windows in the gables, and rectangular PVC windows.
Inside, the building retains its original interior fittings, although it has lost some original features and the sense of being a standalone structure. A stone inscription inside dates a rebuild to 1930. The building is situated in a rural area, close to the main road, and is approached via a driveway from a side road, leading to a yard with a grassed garden along one side. The site was shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1833 as a detached building alongside another, presumably a house. The building holds industrial archaeological interest due to its former use as a rural industrial site. It is currently in private ownership and in use as a house.
