Description
The front boundary wall, located approximately 10 metres west of Number 19 in Wells, is a Grade II listed structure, likely built in the early 18th century. It is constructed from local stone in random rubble coursed, topped with ashlar copings and piers. The wall runs across the entire frontage and features a moulded roll coping that rises to a central gateway. This gateway is flanked by square ashlar gate piers set on moulded plinths, each topped with moulded pyramidal caps. Attached to the northern section of the wall are two cast-iron plate direction signs, possibly from the 19th century, featuring raised lettering and pointing fingers. The upper sign indicates "Shepton Mallet" and the lower sign indicates "Bath," both suggesting a right turn at this location.
