Description
Gates, gatepiers, and walls at the entrance of Ruishton House were built around 1893, likely by Mr. Spiller for Stuart Somerville. The gates are double wrought iron with an ornate design featuring elaborate scroll work and rosettes. The gatepiers are made of thin red bricks and Portland stone, topped with ball finials, a strongly moulded cornice, a central band of stone work, and a moulded plinth. Scroll-headed buttresses support the gates. The wall is constructed of standard-sized red brick in Flemish bond with a flat stone coping, curving out from the gatepiers and featuring end pilasters, standing about 500 millimeters high. This creates a handsome ensemble.
