Description
Roobies Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating to the 17th century, extended and altered in the mid-18th century, and with 20th-century additions. It was built as part of the Fairfield House estate. The farmhouse is constructed of roughcast and has a slate roof, with brick stacks. The building is in an L-shape. It has two storeys and an attic, with three bays facing the garden. The garden frontage features 20th-century metal casement windows. A central door is flanked by half-glazed panels, and is sheltered by a flat wooden hood supported on wrought-iron brackets.
A room on the left of the ground floor contains a fireplace with a bolection moulded surround, above which is a large wooden panel featuring a mid-18th century oil painting depicting a view including Fairfield House, Stogursey Church, and the gazebo at Nether Stowey. This room also has a ceiling with chamfered cross-beams. An 18th-century staircase is present. A fireplace in the rear wing has a broad wooden bressummer, chamfered and dressed stone jambs, and evidence of a smoking chamber. The room also features exposed ceiling beams. Some early roof construction remains.
