Description
The Hunt monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard against the west wall of the south transept of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of Ham stone with wrought iron railings. The tomb features a tall moulded plinth and panelled sides, with one panel at each end and two on each side, adorned with fluted Ionic pilasters. There is no frieze, and the shallow hipped top has moulded coving. The monument is enclosed by wrought iron railings with necked spear points, which are set on a shallow stone plinth. It commemorates John Hunt, who died in 1824.
