Description

This is a range of late 17th-century cottages with predominantly 18th-century features, located on the east side of Keyford. Numbers 41 to 44 have 18th-century flat window surrounds with an outer ogee moulding. The roofs are modern pantiles, and three stone chimneys have been retained. There are four dormers in total. The cottages are two storeys high, with two windows each, although numbers 42 and 44 have three windows on the first floor. The windows are a mix of styles, including four casement windows, each with three lights and flat moulded mullions; number 40 has an 18th-century design with an edge roll, number 41 has a dripmould, and number 42 has a dripmould over modern casements in two bays, with the remaining windows being sash windows. There are three panelled doors, with number 44 featuring a good, decorative cast iron knocker. Stair turrets projecting to the rear are present at numbers 41 and 42. Inside number 44, a stair niche is visible against the stack, and a bricked-up bread oven is located on the opposite side.
