Description

Nos 7 and 8 Sunnyside are probably of mid-to-late 18th-century origin. They are a three-storey and attic building constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring chamfered quoins and a plinth. A band runs above the ground floor, and a cornice and blocking course now serve as eaves. The roof is double saddle pantile, with a mansard to the rear and two gabled dormers. Two end chimneys are present, the one on the right having a moulded capping, which is likely not original.

The front facade has three windows within flat surrounds with an outer ogee mould, fitted with cross-glazed sash windows, the outer ones being paired. A central doorcase features panelled pilasters leading to curved consoles supporting a pediment, with a fluted panel to the frieze. A half-glazed door is set within this doorcase, and a narrow door to the right has a matching surround.

Inside No 7, the ground floor north room contains an Adam-style fireplace complete with a historiated frieze and a ceiling cornice decorated with palmettes. A late Georgian staircase has a curved rail on the lower steps and an adossed first baluster. This building has group value relating to its architectural symmetry and contribution to the streetscape.
