Description
The building is a school room dating from 1827, marked by an incised inscription plaque on the west side that reads "NATIONAL SCHOOL 1827". It is constructed from coursed and squared lias rubble, with some areas rendered, and features a triple-Roman tile roof that is partially hipped to the south, topped with a cruciform finial. The building has a rectangular shape with a cambered corner on the southwest side and exhibits Gothic architectural style. The entrance is located on the east elevation, which is otherwise blank except for a central door opening that contains a plank door set within a surround featuring a 4-centred arch head. The other elevations are adorned with 2-light casement windows that have glazing bars, each light topped with a 4-centred arch head. Two of the windows have reinforced fiberglass sheeting above, while the remaining casements have fiberglass panes instead of glass. This school room is included primarily for its group value with the nearby Church of St Michael.
