Description

These barns, located about 15 meters north-west of Parsonage Farmhouse, likely date from the 18th century, although parts are built on an older foundation. They are constructed from local grey lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a plain clay tile half-hipped roof. The barns feature eleven bays with a collar-trussed roof supported by two purlins on each slope, arranged in two sections at an angle to each other. There is a throughway leading to the center bays, which have early boarded doors and timber-framed chamfer-mullioned windows in the side halls. High up, there is a timber triangular partition with ten openings for pigeons. A loft door is present on the south gable, while the west walls are mostly plain except for one simple doorway. On the east side, there are three segmental brick-lined arches and a gable loft, along with tall doors in a projecting porch towards the north end. The barns hold considerable group value with Parsonage Farmhouse and the Church of the Holy Trinity located opposite.
