Description
The Barrington Monument is a headstone located in the churchyard, about 10 meters southeast of the south porch of the Church of St Gregory. It dates back to at least 1782, although it may be older. Made of ham stone, the monument features a thick slab with a shaped top. The upper section is intricately carved with angels' heads flanking an hourglass and skull, and it has a sunken center with a decorated architrave. The upper section is divided vertically by a cord, with inscriptions on the left side dedicated to Elizabeth Barrington, who died in 1782, and on the right side for Edward Barrington. This monument is the only surviving early headstone in the churchyard and serves as a notable example of its type.
