Description
The gatehouse, built in the early 19th century, is located approximately 80 metres south of Jervaulx Hall. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a stone slate roof. The design includes a semi-circular arch, which is noted on the Ordnance Survey map as 'Lodge', flanked by small lodges that have shell niches. The gatehouse is adorned with corniced capitals and a faceted keystone above the arch. The parapet is designed as an entablature, complete with Jacobean-style finials and semi-circles. Inside the archway, there are doorways with 4-centred arched heads set within a chamfered surround, leading to studded board doors that open into the lodges. The rear elevation features a 3-light mullioned window for each lodge, topped by three pitched roofs.
