Description
This early 19th-century house, originally known as Welbury House and later The Old Rectory, is located on the east side of Main Street in Welbury. The house is of red brick, rendered and has a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high and originally three bays wide, with a double-depth plan and a wing extending to the rear left. A door is located on the left return. The main facade features two full-height, slightly canted bays containing tripartite windows; these have sash windows with glazing bars to the front and 8-pane sashes to the sides, with a cambered arch above each sash. A sash window with glazing bars is located on the first floor to the left. All windows have stone sills. Shaped stone kneelers and a stone coping are also present. External stacks are located to the right and on the ridge. Evidence suggests an original arched doorcase was once on the ground floor to the left. Late 19th and early 20th-century additions to the rear are of no particular architectural interest.
