Description
This is a gateway located approximately 150 metres south of Thornton Watlass Hall, dating from the 18th century. It consists of a pair of gatepiers, two end piers, gates, and railings. The structure is made of ashlar and rubblestone, featuring wrought-iron gates. The gatepiers are flanked by railings with end piers, all of which are rusticated on plinths and include friezes, cornices, and blocking courses topped with reeded urns. The double gates have a plain lock rail and dogbars with fleur-de-lys finials. A low rubblestone wall with chamfered coping connects the end and gatepiers and supports the railings, which also feature bars and fleur-de-lys finials.
