Description
Bell Park Pavilion is a folly located approximately 100 metres south of Gillingwood Hall, built in the early to mid-18th century for the Wharton family. The structure is made of coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and is two storeys tall, with a square plan. Each side of the pavilion features the same design, including chamfered rusticated quoin strips that end in cornice capitals. The first floor has a tall round-arched opening with a chamfered surround and a keyed archivolt that rises from the capitals, adorned with acanthus and egg-and-dart motifs on the keystone, topped with a broken segmental pediment. A doorway has been inserted below this opening on the south-west side, while the upper part of the opening has collapsed on the south-east side. The arches are lined with brickwork, and a pantile roof has been added at the first-floor level for a previous conversion to an animal shelter.
