Description

This is a remains of a churchyard cross located approximately 14.5 metres south-east of the porch of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. It dates from the 15th century and is made of sandstone. The structure features a tapering octagonal shaft with a watershot at the base, which is raised on a cylindrical pedestal that is broach-stopped to a square base. This cross is noted in the Victoria History of the Counties of England: York, North Riding, Volume II, page 436.
