Description

These are mid-18th century gate piers with probably 19th-century gates, located approximately 10 metres east of Ingmanthorpe Hall. The gate piers are constructed of ashlar. The inner piers are about 3 metres high and have a substantial plinth. Their rusticated ashlar is overlaid by a pilaster strip on all four sides. An elaborately moulded cornice and entablature originally supported a moulded stem, but the ball finials are now missing. A linking wall with moulded coping connects the inner piers to the outer piers, which are approximately 2.5 metres high and lack the stem and ball finials. The wrought-iron gates, consisting of two leaves, have elaborate scrolled detail to the bars, dogbars, frame, and lock rail. The structures are included on the list for their group value.
