Description
Hornington Manor is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with 19th-century additions and alterations, including a wing on the left. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with red brick dressings and features a pantile roof. It has a double range plan, with a servant's range on the right and the main range on the left. The main range is two storeys high and has three bays, with quoins at the corners. The central entrance consists of a glazed double door with an overlight, set within a pilastered door-case that has brackets supporting a hood, and features a segmental relieving arch made of red rubbed brick. The ground floor has canted bays with 12-pane sash windows in the centre and 8-pane sashes on the sides. A four-course band runs along the first floor, where there are 12-pane sashes with red brick quoined jambs and under quoined segmental arches. The eaves are raised and stepped, with ashlar coping and kneelers, and there are end stacks. The right range has no openings on the front and features a ridge stack. The left range is also two storeys high with three bays, and has an end entrance that includes a six-fielded-panel door with an overlight featuring vertical glazing bars, set within a door-case with brackets and a hood. The ground floor has 12-pane sashes, while the first floor has 4-pane sashes under flat brick arches, and the roof is hipped to the left side stack. Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with rod-on-vase balusters and a wreathed handrail, along with six-panel doors.
