Description
The revetment walls, terraces, and steps on the north side of Fountains Hall date from the early 17th century, with some restoration in the 19th century. They are made of coursed squared limestone and stretch approximately 50 meters from the rear of Fountains Hall to a trackway to the west of the house. Low walls flank the flights of steps, and a terrace at the third-floor level is connected to a 17th-century doorway by a bridge. Blocked doorways at the basement and ground-floor levels indicate that the terraces and rear access were altered in the 19th or 20th century. A water course runs across the base of the wall to the west of the house, appearing to lead towards the service rooms in the basement.
