Description
The Cottage is a house built in 1749, constructed from coursed squared sandy gritstone and topped with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring two bays and a single-storey bay to the right. The central entrance consists of a four-panel door with a quoined surround and a large lintel that bears an inscribed date. Above the door, shaped stone brackets support a hood made from a single slab, which has a slightly ridged upper surface. The windows on the ground and first floors are three-light with hollow chamfered mullions. The eaves are coved, and there are wooden gutter brackets and end stacks. On the left side, there is a three-light mullion window on the first floor and two two-light mullion windows in the attic. The interior has not been inspected during the resurvey, but the single-storey bay is reported to contain remains of cruck framing. There is a 20th-century garage attached to the left, which is not of special interest.
