Description
Rose Cottage is a house built in 1672 with a mid-19th century addition. It features coursed limestone rubble and brown brick in English bond, topped with a blue slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a 1½ storey, 2-bay stone range on the left that faces the street, and a 2-storey, 2-bay brick addition to the right. The brick section has a 20th-century part-glazed door with a gabled hood, and a 12-pane segmental-headed sash window to the right, with a smaller 9-pane sash window above it. The stone range includes a central 3-light, 24-pane side-sliding sash window under a stone lintel inscribed 'HG 1672'. Above this window are two 2-light side-sliding sashes, with 12 panes to the left and 4 panes to the right, both with plain lintels. Inside, the stone range features timbering in the north gable, side walls, and central cross-wall, with the upper floor supported on a spine beam. There is a large open fireplace in the front room, which has been much rebuilt.
