Description

Pegasus House is a house, originally built around 1846 as the residence for the Coal Manager. It was designed by G.T. Andrews for the Great North of England Railway, commissioned by George Hudson. The house is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof. It is arranged in an L-shape with a 1:1 window arrangement on the first floor. Features include a plinth, quoins, and ground floor doorways, both now glazed, with quoined triangular-headed surrounds. Mullion windows are present throughout, with several being two-light, and one four-light with a king mullion. A blocked vent is situated above a first floor mullion window in the gable of the right bay. A matching glazed doorway is located on the left return of the right-hand bay. Octagonal chimney stacks rise from the centre of both roof ridges. The building is listed for its group value, as part of an important surviving group of railway buildings.
