Description

Bondgate Bridge, built in 1892, features a single iron lattice-girder span supported by four ashlar piers. These piers have pyramidal and crenellated tops, along with traceried panelled sides that display the coat of arms of Ripon. One of the piers is inscribed with "Bondgate Bridge. Opened by the Mayoress of Ripon (Mrs Smithson) Friday the 28 October 1982." The approach to the bridge is lined with cast iron railings that have fleur-de-lys and spear finials, along with plain stone piers at their ends, except on the south-west side, where similar railings extend along the river bank.
