Description
The barn located approximately 15 metres north of Hipswell Hall is a 16th-century structure that has undergone later alterations. It is built of rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. The barn has two storeys and four openings on the first floor. It has a plinth and quoins.
To the left of the centre, there are board doors set in a large chamfered quoined doorway with a concrete lintel. At the right end, there is another board door beneath a concrete lintel. To the left, there is a three-light chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould. In the centre, there is a similar window, but the outer two lights are blocked. To the right, there is a window opening with a concrete sill and lintel.
On the first floor, to the left of centre, there is a board pitching door in a chamfered quoined surround with a concrete lintel. To the left, there is a two-light chamfered mullion window, and to the right, there are two 19th-century window openings. The interior features large cross beams, and it is noted that the right-hand end is said to have been rebuilt during World War II.
