Description

An early to mid-18th century barn with a byre, located approximately 30 metres north-east of Birchfield Farm. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a stone slate roof. It is a long, low range of five bays. The west side has been obscured by 20th-century animal sheds, but the original cart entrances remain, one blocked and one reduced in size. These entrances feature quoined jambs and segmental arches. A byre entrance is also visible on the west side, now reduced to a window, with a loading door above. The building has shaped kneelers and gable coping. A two-light recessed-chamfered mullion window is situated on the rear first floor on the left side. The right return side displays evenly spaced scaffolding holes and a chamfered round-arched opening in the gable. The interior features four tie-beam trusses, two of which include struts.
