Description
The headstone of John Dodson is located in a Quaker burial ground, approximately 10 metres from the south wall. Dated 1736, it is made of gritstone and stands about 50 centimetres high. The headstone has straight sides and a cambered top edge. The inscription, which is deeply cut but weathered, reads: "HERE / Lyeth interred the / Body of JOHN the only / Son of JOSEPH and ELIZABETH DODSON / of KNARESBOROUGH / who departed this / Life on the ?16 Day / of the 4th Month 1736 / In ye 12th Year of his age." The word 'HERE' is presented in decorative lettering within a recessed panel.
