Description

The Smuggler Cafe, located at 29 Baxter Gate, is a building that includes Nos 16 and 17 Loggerhead Yard. It is believed to date from 1401 and features two storeys and attics constructed in ashlar. The building has a steep pantile roof. On the first floor, there is one sliding sash window, and below it, a similar window with fielded shutters. To the left, there is a small window with shutters, and further left, a chamfered 4-centred archway leads to a yard behind. The roof has a blocked slope-top dormer window. Next to the yard entry, there is an old carved wooden male figure of uncertain provenance. This building was formerly known as the Old Ship Launch Inn.
