Description

The buildings at 63 and 65 Main Street date back to the 18th century, although they have a 19th-century facade. They are three storeys high with a slate roof and two chimneys. Number 63 has a facade with banded rustication, while number 65 has plain rustication. Each house has two windows to each floor, except for the first floor of number 65, which has one coupled window. The windows are sash windows with sills and plain reveals. The ground floor facades are modern. A small window with a splayed reveal is visible in the passage to the right. The rear facade, facing Red Dragon Yard, is gabled and has one chimney. The windows of number 65 are sash windows with all original glazing bars. A stone porch with Doric columns, pilasters, and an entablature provides access to the back door of number 65. The interior of number 65 features an exposed beam on the ground floor, a four-flight closed string dogleg staircase and landing with square newels, elaborately turned balusters, a moulded string, and a handrail. There are also two-panelled window reveals on the staircase and six six-panel doors.
