Description
Hazelslack Tower is a Grade II listed building, likely a former solar block with a hall to the east that has since been demolished. It dates from the late 14th century and is constructed of roughly-coursed rubble. The tower has four storeys, although part of it has been demolished. The windows are scattered, with mostly loop lights on the ground floor and small square windows on the upper floors. On the west side, there is a two-light window featuring trefoiled lights in a square head at the third floor level. The east side has a large fireplace with a segmental head on the ground floor, along with a smaller fireplace above and remnants of the gable from the former adjoining building. There is an original doorway with a two-centred arched head in the return wall of the projecting part of the tower. Inside, the tower includes a cross-wall, various fireplaces—some with segmental heads—a base of an open stone stairway that becomes an enclosed circular stair above, and garderobes located in the south-west angle.
