Description
The Caledonian Public House, part of the County Hotel, is a public house located on Botchergate in Carlisle. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. The exterior features painted stucco walls set on a chamfered plinth, with a stone-bracketed metal gutter. The building has a graduated greenslate roof and rebuilt rendered brick chimney stacks. It stands three storeys tall and has five bays. The entrance is an off-centre 20th-century door, flanked by large 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. The upper floor contains sash windows with glazing bars, framed in painted stone architraves. This upper floor may be an addition to an original two-storey structure and is under separate ownership, forming part of the County Hotel. The interior has been extensively altered.
