Description

The Grove and adjoining former stables is a house and stables dated 1753, as inscribed on the window keystone over the entrance, and confirmed by deeds. It incorporates part of a 17th century house at the rear. The building features painted roughcast walls with an eaves cornice and V-jointed quoins set on a chamfered plinth. The roof is made of graduated greenslate and includes roughcast chimney stacks. The stables have a 20th century tile roof and a weather vane.

The structure is two storeys high with five bays, and there is a single-storey extension on the right that connects to the former stables, which are now a garage. A 20th century door is set within a glazed segmental pilastered porch. The large pedimented gable is supported by scrolled brackets and features a tall round-headed stair window with glazing bars, framed by a pilastered surround and a false keystone. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set in painted stone architraves. The extension includes a boarded door in a painted stone architrave.

On the left return wall, there is a greenslate sundial with gold numerals inscribed "J. FALDER 1772." The stable, now a garage, has a 20th century door beneath a greenslate 18th century sundial. There is a right segmental archway, and the right return wall features a boarded door set in a segmental carriage archway, along with 20th century casement windows and a small loft doorway.
