Description

The Raise is a 18th-century farmhouse located in Dean Branthwaite. It was built in 1758, as indicated by the inscription “J & S.H. 1758” over the entrance. The farmhouse has roughcast walls, an eaves cornice, and V-jointed quoins. It features a graduated greenslate roof with right kneeler and roughcast chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and originally three bays wide. The front entrance has a panelled door within an alternate-block surround. Sash windows are set within painted stone architraves. The rear wall incorporates 20th-century windows set in small, original chamfered surrounds where flat stone mullions have been removed. A larger staircase window is positioned above a small, diamond-shaped pantry window.
