Description

The building at 55 and 57 Sheep Street dates to the 18th century. It has a stucco facade with a parapet concealing the roof, and is three storeys high with an attic box dormer. The building features a plinth, quoins, floor bands, and a modillioned cornice. There are five sash windows within reveals, each with a keyblock. The second floor has a Venetian window above a floor oriel bay window; this oriel features arched windows on each face, archivolts, Doric pilasters, and entablatures. The main entrance has coupled doors within panelled reveals, bordered by paired Doric pilasters and an entablature. A shop window, formerly located on the right side, has been removed. The building was probably originally a single dwelling. Numbers 41 to 57 (odd) form a group.
