Description
Numbers 32 and 34 High Street are two houses that have been converted into shops with offices above. They date back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed from stone and brick, featuring a stucco front with a plinth, floor bands, and a parapet. The tile roof has end stacks and the structure rises three storeys high. The first floor has a four-window range consisting of nine-over-six sash windows, with six-over-six sash windows above. There are 20th-century shop fronts, and to the left, there is a door with an overlight and a flat moulded hood.
Inside, the buildings have chamfered bridging beams, including one with sunk quadrant moulding. On a landing, there are two doorways that feature moulded architraves, with the moulding dying above shaped ogee stops at plinth level. A Tudor-arched moulded stone fireplace can be found on the second floor. There is a winder stair that wraps around an octagonal newel, leading from the first floor to the attic in the rear stair turret. The roof, likely from the 18th century, has coupled rafters, two tiers of purlins, and several renewals.
