Description
Pulpit Bridge in Watford Park is a 19th-century brick bridge that features a single span resting on a stone plinth. It has projecting, canted brick abutments faced in stone, along with adjoining brick wings. The abutments are designed with moulded stone bases and copings, and they include recessed, round-headed panels that resemble lancet windows, a design element that is echoed in the balustrade above. The bridge has metal, four-centred arches on the north and south sides, adorned with foliate designs and the Henley Coat of Arms in the spandrels. Above the arches are balustrades featuring interleaving arch motifs, which culminate in stepped projections on the abutments. These projections, reminiscent of pulpits or armchairs, are decorated with banding, finials, and open lancet-type openings.
Additionally, beneath the bridge, there is a metal gate supported by two decorative posts, with railings on either side, marking the entrance to the park.
