Description
The entrance gatepiers, gates, and forecourt pool surround at Pearce's Leather Works were built in 1939 by Wilfrid Lawson Carter. The gatepiers are made of rendered and whitewashed brick, featuring brick plinths and stone caps. The main piers have taller stone caps that are pierced with square and rectangular holes for lighting. Between the main piers are iron carriage gates with a geometrical design, along with pedestrian gates of a similar design on either side. Beyond these are lower piers.
Aligned with the entrance gates and the factory entrance is a long forecourt pool, which has a flat plain surround with canted corners at the entrance end. The gatepiers, gates, and pool are part of a significant group with the Pearce's Leather Works factory and the generator and garage block.
