Description
This is a 17th-century house, later divided into three cottages at 19-25 Queen Street, Geddington. The construction is of coursed limestone rubble, with slate and Collyweston stone slate roofs. There is a coped left gable and moulded stone and brick ridge and end stacks. The original house, now Nos. 19 and 25, retains a three-light stone mullioned window with an ovolo moulding in the right-hand bay, on both the ground and first floors (the ground floor window is partially concealed by a later one-storey outbuilding). The left-hand part of the building is masked by a later extension. A mid-20th century addition (No. 23) has a C20 door to the left and a single-light window to the right of the ground floor. Above are two two-light casement windows with wooden lintels, and several blocked openings. The rear of the building includes a gabled wing and a variety of small-paned windows, including an inner casement, a cross casement, and a horizontally-sliding sash window. The interior of No. 19 has been altered but still preserves part of a 17th and 18th century staircase with turned balusters, a spine beam with run-out stops, and an inglenook in the left-hand room. The interiors of Nos. 23 and 25 were not inspected. The building may have formerly served as the vicarage.
