Description

Dorney House is a partly 18th-century building, enlarged in the 19th century. It is constructed of whitewashed brick, with a slate roof. The house comprises two bays extending through two storeys, connected by a central section, and with a wing to the left, which is partly two and partly one storey high. The left-hand bay is of 18th-century origin and bowed, while the right-hand bay is 19th-century and polygonal in shape. A ground-floor link section features a veranda with cast iron columns and brackets, and a glazed roof. All windows are sash windows with differing patterns of glazing bars. Two windows in the central section have moulded surrounds and elaborate cornices supported by brackets, one of which is narrow and arched. The interior retains numerous 19th-century features, including cast iron firebacks, marble mantelpieces, and cast iron railings to the staircase.
