Description

The Cottage is a timber-framed cottage dating from the 17th to early 18th century, located in Marsh Gibbon. Originally a single-cell building, it has been altered and extended and is now rendered in whitewashed cob. The thatched roof is hipped on the left side, and it features an external chimney to the right gable, built with a whitewashed rubble stone base and brick above. A further brick stack is located centrally. The cottage is 1½ storeys high with three small bays. The two right-hand bays contain paired barred wooden casements; the rightmost window is under a thatch eyebrow dating from the 19th century, while the others are 20th century replacements. These windows all have timber lintels. A central ledged board door provides access. A 20th-century extension projects from the left-hand bay. A rear lean-to constructed of cob and featuring two very small windows provides access to the rear of the property, and is tiled.
