Description
Swilley Farmhouse is a building dating from the 17th century and the late 18th to early 19th century. The 17th-century section is timber-framed with colourwashed plaster, while the later part is constructed of colourwashed brick. The farmhouse has an old tile roof and stands two storeys high.
On the later elevation, the first floor features two 2-light casement windows with cambered arches. The ground floor has a central door flanked by two 2-light casement windows, also with cambered arches, and is topped with a modillion cornice. The 17th-century elevation on the left side has a roof that slopes down to one storey and includes an old red brick chimney. The first floor has two small windows located under the eaves, and the ground floor contains a door and one window. The surrounding landscape is noted for its connections to the poet Thomas Gray.
