Description
Western House, dating from 1699, is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed of chequer brick. It features a heavy wooden cornice with modillions and a hipped roof covered in old tiles. A moulded brick string course runs along the first floor level. The front has three bays, with a door on the left side that has a rectangular fanlight beneath a richly carved shell hood, which is supported by scroll brackets featuring an angel device. To the left, there is a two-storey service wing that projects at right angles. This house was the residence of architect Charles Fowler from 1852 to 1867.
