Description

Holly Mount is a detached house designed by C F A Voysey for C T Burke, built between 1905 and 1907 in the Vernacular Revival style. The house is constructed of roughcast with stone dressings, featuring tarred plinths and a green slate roof with two roughcast chimneystacks. It has two storeys and three windows, with a rectangular plan that includes gables at either end and a further projecting gable on the front left. To the left, there is a one-storey service wing. The windows are irregularly spaced mullioned leaded casements that retain their original catches and have green tiled cills on the inside. The doorcase, located under a gable, features a round-headed tiled hood mould and an arched door with a circular glazed opening. Above the door, there is a plaque that reads 'HOLLYMOUNT 1907', flanked by holly decoration. The rear elevation includes two dormers, with three-light windows in the dormers and a four-light window on the ground floor. On the left side, a late 20th-century French window has replaced a porthole window.

Inside, the hall has polished green slate floors and an original slate fireplace with a round-headed arch. There are a series of plank doors with original rustic hinges, including round-headed doors leading to the Drawing Room. The well staircase features elongated stick balusters. The Drawing Room contains an original fireplace with a shelf supported by three brackets, a large cambered brick arch, and a curved copper fender. The Dining Room has a round-headed tiled arched fireplace with a shelf above supported by two brackets, as well as two original cupboards with heart-shaped locks. The Breakfast Room features an original built-in dresser, cupboards, and a row of eight servants' bells. On the first floor, there are four cast iron fireplaces with marble surrounds featuring robin reliefs and built-in cupboards.
