Description
Greengates, located at 29 Amersham High Street, is a building from the 17th century that was altered in the 18th century and has been cement rendered and painted in the 19th century. It features an old tiled roof with two large modern gabled dormers and a brick stack on the right. The building is two storeys high and has a prominent carriage arch with gates on the left. To the right of the arch is a six-panel door, which has four fielded panels and two flush panels, set in panelled reveals with a surround of fluted pilasters and a pediment. There are two barred sash windows on the right side and three on the first floor, all with reveals. The flank wall in the carriage arch is timber framed. The rear elevation is irregular, featuring a gabled wing made of chequer brick with a datestone from 1806. The wing to the northeast has a sash window and a rebuilt gable with modern casements. The gable over the carriage arch is visually part of the adjacent buildings, Nos 31 and 33.
