Description
Number 8 on Church Street is a 15th-century building that was refronted in the early 19th century. It has two storeys and is finished in stucco, featuring three gables with elaborately moulded and cut barge boards, along with shaped and moulded central and bottom finials that have pendants. The roof is covered with old tiles. Each gable has a flat pointed arched window beneath a drip mould, which includes a mask keystone, and the windows have diamond glazing.
On the ground floor, there is a similar window beneath the left gable, two similar windows (one of which is small) beneath the right gable, and two narrow similar windows flanking a four-panel door with Gothic panels and an octagonal pattern fanlight, all under a similar drip mould. All ground floor windows feature an octagonal and diamond glazing pattern. There is an extension to the right side that includes one window on the first floor and a stable door on the ground floor.
Inside, the building has a large open fireplace and other features from the 16th century, while the staircase dates from the 17th century. There are 18th-century wings at the back, and the chimneys have clustered shafts with elaborate heads. Numbers 8 to 12 (even) and number 16 form a group.
